From the lines drawn from Oskar Schlemmer’s 1924 essay Man and Art Figure, through his 16mm film of 1969, to his work being eroded by time until only the colour pink remains, Oliver Husain constructs a choreography upon a choreography upon a choreography. The result is an attempt to ‘bend’ the utopian imagination of the Bauhaus figures into something more speculative and inclusive. Bodies that move differently from the way Schlemmer calculated proportions and geometry on biological bodies without attributes become hybrid bodies originating from beyond european, queer gestures, and, above all, moving in tandem with the contemporaneity of video responding to celluloid materiality.
